Our Standards
What “trusted Judaica” actually means to us
Judaica Square was born out of the Eichler’s family’s five decades serving frum homes. That heritage comes with a standard: if we wouldn’t put it in our own home, on our own doorpost, or in our own tefillin bag, we don’t sell it to yours.
Here’s what that looks like in practice.
Tefillin
Every pair of tefillin on this site has been inspected by a certified sofer before we list it. We carry three tiers, and we’re direct with you about what separates them:
Mehudar Gassos
Our top tier. Thick battim made from a single piece of hide, with extra-fine ksav (script) by established sofrim. Suitable for a bar mitzvah pair that will last a lifetime, or for someone who wants hiddur mitzvah at its fullest.
Dakkos
Traditional middle tier. Strong, properly-formed battim and clean ksav from reputable sofrim. This is what most adult men buy and what we recommend for most bar mitzvah boys.
Peshutim Mehudarim
Entry-level kosher tefillin — fully kosher, fully inspected, just simpler battim. A good choice for a second pair, a traveling pair, or when budget is the deciding factor.
What we don’t sell: We don’t carry peshutim that haven’t been personally inspected, we don’t sell tefillin with ksav from unknown sofrim, and we don’t list anything that a sofer in our network wouldn’t put on himself.
Every pair ships with the sofer’s hechsher and our own inspection note. If you want to see the kesavim (parchments) before committing, ask — we’ll send photos.
Mezuzos
The parchment inside a mezuzah case is what matters halachically. We source our klafim (parchments) from the same network of sofrim we use for tefillin:
Mehudar
Hand-written by senior sofrim, fully mehudar ksav, on the highest-grade parchment. Recommended for a primary doorpost.
Standard Kosher
Hand-written, properly inspected, fully kosher — for additional doorways in the home where mehudar is not required by halacha.
What we don’t sell: Printed or photocopied “mezuzos” (they aren’t kosher), imported parchments without a hechsher, or any klaf we haven’t inspected ourselves.
We recommend a sofer check your mezuzos every 3.5 years. If you bought your klafim from us, bring them back to either Lakewood location and we’ll have them inspected on-site.
Seforim
We stock Artscroll/Mesorah, Feldheim, Koren, Menucha, Targum, Judaica Press, Gefen, and dozens of smaller publishers. If a sefer has a haskama (rabbinic approbation) and fits in a frum home library, we carry it.
Judaica objects
Silver, menorahs, candlesticks, becher cups, challah boards, kiddush cups, bentchers, atarahs — every Judaica object on the site is sourced either from established brands (Hadad Bros, Quest, Yair Emanuel, Waterdale, iKippah, Copa) or from our own import program. Where silver-plate is used, we label it as silver-plate, not sterling. Where we sell sterling, we specify the grade (.925).
Returns on halachic items
Tefillin and mezuzos cannot be returned once the box has been opened and the parchment touched, because halachically they are no longer new. We’ll swap a pair pre-open if the tier or size is wrong. Everything else follows our standard 15-day return policy.
