Start with the essentials

Light every night

Choose your menorah first, then check the candle size or oil-cup fit. Add the supplies you need for all eight nights.

Plan your eight nights

For the customary one-more-candle-each-night lighting, allow 36 candles plus 8 shamash candles for each menorah.

44 candles including shamash Using 45-candle boxes: 1 box(es) Or using 135-candle boxes: 1 box(es)

The quantities shown are for one candle-lit menorah. For more menorahs, multiply 44 by the number you plan to light.

The two box sizes are alternatives, not a combined shopping list. Check candle fit and Friday-night burning time before buying. This calculator plans candle quantity, not oil-cup compatibility.

Prices follow the available variant. Supplies are sold separately; no menorah fit or delivery date is assumed. Check product instructions and supervise all open flames.

Pack estimates use the price shown. Your cart confirms prices, discounts, tax and shipping.

Two Friday nights this year

The first and eighth nights fall on Fridays, December 4 and 11. Before Shabbos, use enough oil or longer-burning candles to last at least 30 minutes after nightfall. Read the lighting guide

A little guidance

Get ready for eight nights

How many candles do I need?

Lighting one more candle each night uses 36 candles across eight nights. With one shamash each night, that makes 44. Check the pack quantity and candle fit; Friday nights need sufficient burning time after nightfall.

Will these oil cups fit my menorah?

Compare the cup diameter, holder size and product instructions before buying. Check whether oil and wicks are included. If the dimensions are unclear, contact us with the menorah and cup you are considering.

Is every decorative menorah suitable for lighting?

Check the product's intended use, holder arrangement and candle or oil compatibility. Electric and decorative pieces serve different purposes. If you need a menorah for mitzvah lighting and are unsure, ask your rabbi before choosing.

Can my order arrive before Chanukah?

Review the delivery estimate and available shipping options at checkout. If you need an order by a specific date, contact us before ordering so we can check availability and the delivery options for your destination.

Shopping for a class, event or larger group?

Tell us the quantities, children's ages if relevant, and the date you need everything. We can help you check the options before you order.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When is Chanukah (Hanukkah) in 2026?

Chanukah 2026 begins on the evening of Friday, December 4, when the first light is lit, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12 (dates from Hebcal). The first and eighth nights both fall on Friday this year, December 4 and December 11.

How does lighting work on the Friday nights?

On Friday the Chanukah lights are lit before the Shabbos candles, so the menorah needs enough oil or long enough candles to keep burning until at least half an hour after nightfall. Standard small Chanukah candles may not last that long, so many families use larger oil cups or longer candles on Friday. Customs on exact timing differ; ask your rabbi.

Is it Chanukah or Hanukkah?

Both. They are two English spellings of the same Hebrew word, חנוכה. You will also see Hanukah and Chanuka. Our listings use both spellings, so search with whichever you prefer.

Should I choose an oil menorah or a candle menorah?

Both are used. Many families prefer olive oil because the Chanukah miracle involved oil, while candles are simpler to set up and clean. Some menorahs take either. Oil menorahs need cups or glasses and wicks, which are sold separately unless the listing says they are included.

How many candles do I need for all eight nights?

One more light is added each night, plus the shamash. That comes to 36 candles plus 8 shamash candles, or 44 per menorah. Most Chanukah candle boxes hold 44 or 45. Pre-filled oil cups are also sold in 44-count packs.

Can an electric or LED menorah be used for the mitzvah?

Electric and LED menorahs are popular for display, offices, dorms and places where open flames are not allowed. Many rabbis hold that they do not fulfill the mitzvah of lighting, which is done with oil or candles. Ask your rabbi about your situation.

What should I look for in a kids' menorah?

In many families each child lights a menorah. Look for a stable base, cups or candle holders that sit level, and a size that fits safely on the table or windowsill. Children should always light with an adult watching.
