Behind the Scenes by Esther Rapaport, Softcover

Simi is sure her brother could have done better than quiet, plain Menuchi, and Menuchi knows exactly how Simi feels. Another unlikely pair, Dan and Diana, face a sister determined to stop them. In the background, a British benefactress works to return a homeless girl found in post-war Antwerp to her people. Esther Rapaport's novel runs 408 pages.

Simi and Menuchi. The most unlikely pair. And now they are sisters-in-law. But what do you do when you're sure your brother could have done better, when you feel your sister-in-law is too quiet, too plain, and just not good enough for your family?

And what do you do when you are that brother's wife, and you know exactly how his sister feels about you?

Dan and Diana. Another unlikely pair. He, a Jew; she, a non-Jew; and his fiancé and future wife, too; unless his sister has any say in the matter, that is.

And in the shadow of it all is the presence of a homeless, lonely little girl found wandering around in post-war Antwerp by a kind, albeit non-Jewish British benefactress, who will stop at nothing in order to restore the lost soul to her People.

Behind the Scenes is the moving, suspenseful story of what goes on in the deepest recesses of the hearts and minds of seemingly ordinary people. All is not always the way it seems when you care to look beyond the stage, behind the scenes.
