Happiness in the Face of Adversity Rabbi Elie Feder, PhD (Hardcover)

Powerful Torah ideas from a Mom's parting words

In Happiness in the Face of Adversity, Rabbi Elie Feder, PhD, opens a window into the extraordinary resilience of his mother, Shani Feder, a”h. Before undergoing a life-threatening surgery, Shani wrote a heartfelt letter to her children — a letter that distilled the secrets of finding joy and meaning even amidst unimaginable challenges. Her words, filled with wisdom, warmth, and faith, are the heart of this transformative book.

Rabbi Feder builds upon this legacy, pairing his mother’s deeply personal insights with timeless Torah wisdom. Each chapter unpacks a piece of her letter, illuminating its profound lessons and providing practical steps for living a life of joy and faith. With its engaging, relatable style, the book invites readers to experience the depth of Shani’s message while offering tools to transform their own lives.

About the author:

Since 2004, Rabbi Feder has been a beloved maggid shiur at Yeshiva B’nei Torah and a mathematics professor at Kingsborough Community College. He is the author of Gematria Refigured (Mosaica Press, 2022) and the host of two thought-provoking podcasts: Physics to God (cohosted) and Simply Deep.

This emotional and spiritual journey is framed by a foreword from Rabbi Dov Keilson and a reflective introduction by Elisheva Liss, LMFT. Their insights highlight the universal relevance of Shani’s message and elevate the book into a work that speaks to every heart.

Her letter was written for her children, but its message resonates far beyond them. It’s a gift to anyone searching for happiness, courage, and faith when life feels overwhelming.
