Description
The Black Blue Etch Kippah is a four-panel black woven yarmulke with a fine white and royal-blue crosshatch, sold in 11 sizes (dome 1 to 7 plus 16, 18, 20 and 22cm flat) at $9.99. The base is a near-black cloth with the dense, slightly flecked texture of suiting. Over it runs an irregular check of thin lines, some white and some a clear royal blue, drawn unevenly as if etched by hand. The blue only shows up close; from a distance the kippah reads as a dark, textured check. The rim is a band of the same fabric. Sold by Judaica Square, shipping from Lakewood, NJ.

How this compares
| Kippah | Material | Season / weight | Formality | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Black Blue Etch (this one) | Suiting-style weave | Autumn and winter | Smart | A dark check with a hint of blue for navy outfits |
| Black Etch Kippah / Yarmulke | Suiting-style weave | Autumn and winter | Smart | The same etch check in black and grey-white only |
| Etch Kippah – Black Gold Cotton Yarmulke | Woven cotton | Autumn and winter | Smart | A warmer etch with gold and brown lines on dark brown-black |
Best for
- Men who wear navy or charcoal suits and want the kippah to pick up the blue
- Weekday office wear where a plain black kippah feels too severe
- Winter Shabbos with a dark coat
- Bigger heads, since this runs to size 7 and a 22cm flat
Not the right choice if
- A plain black kippah rule
- Summer heat; the fabric looks and feels like wool suiting
- Anyone who wants the blue to be obvious; it is subtle
- A child who wants a fun print
Why customers choose it
The Etch pattern looks like a fine check sketched with a pen, and this version threads royal blue through the white lines. It sits naturally with navy suits and blue shirts, which is what most men wear, and still reads as a dark kippah in shul. The irregular lines keep it from looking like a standard office check. With sizes up to 7 and a 22cm flat, it covers larger heads that many patterned kippot skip.

Sizing is guidance, not a promise — heads vary. When you are between two sizes, the larger one sits better.
Frequently asked questions
What does etch mean here?
It describes the pattern: thin, uneven check lines that look like they were sketched or etched by hand, rather than a perfect printed grid.
How visible is the blue?
Up close you can clearly see royal-blue lines among the white ones. From a few feet away the kippah looks black with a light check.
How is it different from the plain Black Etch?
Black Etch uses only white and grey lines. This version adds royal blue, which pairs better with navy clothing.
Is it wool?
iKippah does not list the fibre. The fabric has the look and texture of suiting.
Which size for a large adult head?
Try size 6 or 7, or the 20cm or 22cm flat.
