Cruise Control Kippah, Cotton Yarmulke

The Cruise Control Kippah is a four-panel black cotton yarmulke printed with rows of little cartoon cars, sold in 8 sizes (dome 1 to 6, 16cm flat and 18cm flat) at $9.99. On the black ground you can pick out orange fire engines, teal sedans, yellow taxis, pink vans, a dump truck with a dotted load and a delivery lorry, all drawn in a flat, simple style with little white wheels. The vehicles run in neat horizontal lines, and the rim is finished with a band of plain black. Sold by Judaica Square, shipping from Lakewood, NJ.

How this compares

Best for

• Boys who love cars but whose parents prefer a dark kippah
• Daily school wear, since black hides dirt
• Teens and men who like a quiet novelty print, in size 5, 6 or flat
• Brothers of different ages wearing the same design

Not the right choice if

• A formal black-velvet setting; the colourful cars show up clearly
• A child who wants one big bold vehicle; these are small and repeated
• Someone wanting fire trucks and police cars only
• A very bright summer kippah; the ground is black

Why customers choose it

The black background is what makes this car print different. It keeps the kippah dark enough to wear to school every day, while the small orange, teal and yellow vehicles give a boy something to point at. The cars are small and evenly spaced, so from a distance it reads as a dotted pattern rather than a cartoon. The range runs from a size 1 dome to an 18cm flat, so fathers and sons can match.

Size guide

Sizing is guidance, not a promise — heads vary. When you are between two sizes, the larger one sits better.

Frequently asked questions

What colours are the cars on the Cruise Control Kippah?
Mostly orange, teal, mustard yellow, soft pink, brown and cream, each with small white wheels, all on a solid black ground.

Is the black rim part of the print?
No. The rim is a separate plain black band, which gives the edge a clean finish and frames the print.

Would an adult wear this kippah?
Many adults like it, because the black ground and small scale keep it low-key. Size 5 fits most men, and 16cm or 18cm flat suits men who want a shallower kippah.

How is it different from the Flipped Car Kippah?
Cruise Control has upright cars in tidy rows on black. Flipped Car uses a pale blue ground with blue-toned cars, some drawn upside down, so it looks softer and lighter.

What size is right for a toddler?
Size 1 fits roughly age 2 to 3. If he is nearly 4, size 2 leaves room to grow.
