Description
Eight-year-old twins Moishy and Sury find a glowing rock near Tante Reizel's home, and it carries them back to the sweatshops and pushcart peddlers of the 1880s Lower East Side. There they meet Mindel, an immigrant girl fired again and again for refusing to work on Shabbos, and must help her and get home before Shabbos.
The Lower East Side of New York, 1880s
When eight-year-old twins Moishy and Sury discover a strange, glowing rock in a dusty, vacant lot outside Tante Reizel's home on the Lower East Side of New York, little do they realize the adventure they are in for!
The rock is a special "time transporter," and before the children can blink, it carries them away and back in time, to the Lower East Side of the 1880s. There, Moishy and Sury meet the pulsing life of sweatshops and peddlers advertising their wares from pushcarts. They also meet Mindel, a Jewish immigrant girl who keeps getting fired from different jobs because she won’t work on Shabbos.
Can Moishy and Sury help Mindel out? And can they figure out how to help themselves, and get out of the past and back to the present...in time for the fast-approaching Shabbos?
Read all about it in this suspenseful and educational book for young readers!
