Description
White leather, design #2016, in a square of roughly 8 by 8 inches. Leather behaves differently from a fabric pouch: it holds its shape when empty, it does not crease along the fold, and a mark on the surface wipes off rather than setting into the weave. In white, that last point stops being a detail and becomes the reason to choose it.
A rolled gartel drops into the 8 inch square without being squeezed. Keeping it separate matters most for a white or light gartel, which otherwise picks up colour from everything it sits against inside a tallis bag over a season of use.
White leather is the finish to look for if the tallis bag and bencher cover in the house are already white leather. Design #2016 runs through Malchut's tallis and tefillin bags, so the same number in the same material lines the set up exactly. It is the combination families put together for a chosson, where everything that comes out for the chuppah is meant to be white.
