Description
Corduroy cut into squares instead of stripes — the wale runs one direction in one block and the other direction in the next, so the whole navy corduroy kippah reads as a soft checkerboard that changes as you turn it. It is the same plush hand as a cord jacket, in a navy deep enough to pass as almost-black indoors. Sold by Judaica Square in Lakewood, NJ.

Perfect for
Corduroy is the cold-weather kippah — heavier than cotton, warmer on the head, and it looks right from Sukkos through to Pesach. The square texture keeps it from reading as a plain navy solid, so it works for Shabbos without needing a contrast rim or embroidery. Boys' sizes start at 1, which makes it easy to buy a father-and-son pair for the winter.
Why customers love it
Pile fabrics hold their shape and hide wear along the rim, which is where a thin cotton kippah gives up first. The raised squares also give a bit of grip — a corduroy yarmulka slides less than a satin one. This is the navy half of a matched pair; the Black Corduroy Kippah – Square Texture Yarmulke is the identical weave in black, and the Navy Corduroy Kippah – White Star Yarmulke is the same fabric family with a motif for a younger boy.
Frequently asked questions
Is corduroy too warm for year-round wear?
Most people treat it as a fall-and-winter kippah and switch to cotton or linen in the summer. There is nothing stopping you wearing it all year.
How is this different from regular striped corduroy?
The wale is cut in alternating directions to form squares rather than running in continuous stripes, which is what creates the checkerboard.
What size kippah for an adult man?
Size 5, or a 20cm flat if you prefer a wider, lower profile.
Can corduroy be embroidered?
Yes — the pile takes stitching well and there is no minimum order. WhatsApp us with the wording.
How do I clean a corduroy kippah?
Brush the pile with a soft brush and spot clean. Avoid soaking, which flattens the wale.
Does the square texture show from a distance?
Softly. In daylight the checkerboard is clear; under indoor light it settles back into a rich navy with a bit of movement in it.
