Description
For five generations of the Talmudic era, the Sages of the Land of Israel debated, expounded and applied the laws of the Mishnah in the Galil. Their learning was gathered in the Talmud Yerushalmi, until Roman persecution around 350 C.E. silenced the yeshivos of the Holy Land.
Without the extra years the Babylonian Sages had to redact and organize their Talmud, the Yerushalmi remained exceedingly difficult and was closed to all but select scholars. The scholars of the Schottenstein Edition of Talmud Bavli now open it to English readers.
