White Leather Shtender Cover Fitted 13.5 x 16.5 Top with 6-Inch Sides

White leather rather than velvet, cut to the same pattern: 13.5 by 16.5 inches on the top, fitted at the two back corners, with six inches hanging down each side. Leather sits flatter and crisper on an amud than velvet does and it holds a clean edge along the front rather than softening into the corner.

The reason to spend the extra over velvet is maintenance. White velvet on an amud picks up everything, and once it does there is very little to be done about it. Leather wipes. Wax, a smudge from a hand, a mark from a sefer laid down wet from the rain, all of it comes off, which on a white cover in constant use through the Yamim Noraim is not a small consideration.

Measure the shtender first. The fitted rear corners mean the cover is cut to that top size, and a noticeably different amud will not take it properly. For a shul buying a white cover it will use every Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur for the next decade, leather is usually the version that is still presentable at the end of it.
