Description
Plain white velvet, cut 13.5 by 16.5 inches across the top with the two back corners fitted and a six inch fall on either side. Straightforward white with no antique treatment and no leather sheen, which is what many shuls want on the amud for the Yamim Noraim, matched to a plain white paroches.
Velvet gives a depth that leather does not. Under the lights over an amud it reads soft and full rather than reflective, and it is the traditional material for the purpose, which for a shul that changes its whole aron and bimah over for Rosh Hashana usually settles the question.
Take the measurements off the shtender before ordering, because the fitted corners mean the cover is made to that top dimension. And keep this one for the Yamim Noraim rather than leaving it on year round. White velvet in daily use through a winter will not be the same white by the time Elul comes around, and a navy or darker cover is the sensible thing to leave on the amud the rest of the year.
