The case has to fit the scroll, so choose the scroll size first. Cases listed in centimeters are sized by scroll length, and our kosher scrolls come in these lengths:

  • 6, 7 and 10 cm scrolls suit interior doors, narrow doorposts and slim cases.

  • Cases are listed by scroll length: 10, 12, 15 and 20 cm are the common sizes here. Measure your scroll before ordering.

Indoor or outdoor

  • Waterproof aluminum and plastic cases suit exposed doorways. Glass, wood and enamel cases suit indoor doors.

Materials

  • Aluminum and metal, plastic, wood, glass, stone-look, enamel, sterling silver, acrylic and lucite, polyresin and ceramic (from current product titles).

Scroll not included

  • A case doesn't include a kosher scroll unless the listing says so.

Does the case come with a scroll?

Only if the listing says so. Most cases are sold without a scroll.

Which cases work outdoors?

Choose a case described as waterproof, usually aluminum or sealed plastic, for doors exposed to rain.

Where on the doorpost does a mezuzah go?

It is placed on the right side as you enter, in the upper third of the doorpost. Ashkenazim usually angle it with the top toward the room, and many Sephardim place it upright. Ask your rav about your doorway.
