What goes in a besamim box?
The classic spice is cloves (besamim of cloves are fragrant, widely available, and storage-stable), but cinnamon bark, bay leaves, and dried lavender are also used. The minhag varies by family; the halachic requirement is simply a bracha-worthy scent. Replace spices every few weeks so the fragrance stays fresh.
Does the havdalah candle need to be braided?
A havdalah candle should be a single flame with multiple wicks — the braided design merges several wicks into one torch. A plain single-wick candle is b'dieved acceptable but most are makpid on the braided candle. We sell 6", 9", and 18" braided candles in wax, beeswax, and parafin.
Can I buy pieces separately?
Yes — every component in our sets can be purchased individually. If you have a family becher and just need the besamim and candle holder, or if you're replacing a lost piece, filter the collection by "individual pieces."
Is a matching set halachically required?
No — halacha only requires wine, a scent, and a flame. Matching sets are for aesthetics and for keeping the three mitzvah objects together. If you have a sterling becher already, a simple olivewood besamim box and any candle holder will fulfill the mitzvah perfectly.
