Plastic Bag Protector with Black Fabric Back, Tefillin to Extra Large

A clear front protector finished with a black fabric back instead of a leather look panel. The material back is softer against the bag it covers and gives a flatter, quieter finish, which some men prefer over the sheen of the leather look version at very close to the same price.

Choose by the bag you own. The 9x8 is cut for a tefillin bag, the 10x10.5 for a bar mitzvah bag, the 12x12 for a medium bag, the 14x14 for a large talis bag and the 16x16 for an extra large. Lay the bag flat and measure it rather than guessing from the name it was sold under, since bags from different years and different makers do not always agree on what large means.

A protector is the cheapest insurance there is on an embroidered velvet bag. The bag itself may have been a serious purchase or a bar mitzvah gift with a name on it, and the thing that ruins it is almost never dramatic. It is the accumulation of wet benches, dusty shelves and being set down somewhere without thinking.
