Frequently asked questions
When does a bris take place?
On the eighth day, which leaves very little time to organise anything. If you are ordering as a guest, use pickup or $7 local delivery rather than shipping — standard delivery will very likely miss it.
What is a pidyon haben?
The redemption of a firstborn son, held on the thirty-first day where it applies. It does not apply to every family, and the details depend on the parents' status — the family's rav guides them on whether and how it is done.
What do guests bring?
The same as any new-baby simcha: nursery Judaica, a keepsake, a bencher set, or a silver piece. Nothing specific to the bris itself is expected of a guest.
What does the family need for the seudah?
Benchers in the right quantity are the main thing people underestimate. Count the seats and add a margin.
Can items be engraved with the baby's name?
Yes — but for a boy the name is given at the bris itself, so engraving happens afterwards. Allow 10 to 14 days plus shipping, and treat it as a gift that arrives a few weeks later rather than on the day.
How fast can I get something for a bris this week?
In-store pickup at either Lakewood location is immediate, and local delivery across Lakewood and Ocean County is $7 flat rate. Shipping is 1–3 days to dispatch plus 3–7 in transit, which rarely fits an eight-day window.
