Leather Matzah Cover, Modd'e Collection #654

Leather, with the Modd'e Collection's decorative medallion worked at the center — design #654. Leather is the practical choice at a Seder table: it wipes down, it does not hold wine the way a woven fabric does, and it keeps its shape after a night of being folded back and closed again. It also darkens slightly with handling, which most people consider an improvement.

The 30cm kids size is a plain cover with no insert pockets. The 40cm bucherim size includes one pocket insert, and that insert is what separates the matzos and holds their crumbs inside the cover. Given the material, the 40cm is the version most buyers take — leather at a child's place is more than the setting usually calls for.

This number is made only as a matzah cover, so there is no matching challah piece to add later. That makes it a clean single purchase: one design, one item, chosen on the material rather than on what it coordinates with. For a man buying his own Seder cover to keep for decades, leather is the whole argument.
