Description
The silver-thread version of design #502, worked on the same fitted black leather. Silver against black is cooler and sharper than gold against black — the pattern reads as crisp line work rather than as warm ornament, and it sits better in a room with chrome, glass or modern fittings than the gold version does.
Fitted construction means the cover is cut to the menorah table, and that table comes with it. Nothing has to be measured and nothing hangs over an edge where it could catch on a sleeve. Once it is on, the surface is flat and square, which is what you want when several menorahs and a full oil kit are sharing the space for eight nights.
Leather is the reason this survives repeat use. Wax drips, oil spills and the odd scorch from a match all come off a leather surface with a cloth, where a fabric cover keeps the record of every Chanukah it has been through. Households that light with oil rather than candles feel that difference most.
