Description
A plain white cotton beged for boys, round neck, one hole at each corner, with meyuchad strings already tied on. This is the standard first tzitzis in most Ashkenazishe homes: nothing to fuss with in the morning, and a neck opening a three-year-old can get his own head through without help.
Sizes 2 to 7. Go by the size he is wearing now rather than the one he will grow into, because a beged that hangs too long gets stepped on and the corners are the first thing to go. Meyuchad strings are machine-tied and even, which is what you want on a beged that will be tugged, sat on and washed weekly for a year.
Cotton is the practical fabric for a child. It is soft against skin, it takes an ordinary wash, and if it comes home from cheder with paint on it nobody has lost much. Most mothers order two or three in the current size and one in the next size up, so the changeover in the middle of the year is not a separate errand.
