Canopy Design Brocade Challah Cover, Silver or Gold Thread #160

An arched canopy is embroidered straight across the brocade on design 160, drawn wide enough to span most of the face rather than sitting as a small motif in the middle. Crystal accents are set into the arch so the line of it catches light along its length. Thread comes in silver or gold, and on brocade the difference is real — silver against the woven ground keeps the arch crisp and cool, gold blurs into the fabric a little and reads warmer and more traditional.

Two sizes are cut: small at 15 by 17.5 and large at 19.5 by 23.5. There is no in-between here, so the decision is straightforward. The small suits a table set for the family; the large is for a table that regularly seats guests, or for laying over a challah board where you want the fabric to fall past the edges.

Design 160 is also produced as a bencher cover and as simanim cards, which makes it one of the more useful numbers to standardise on. A set of benchers and a challah cover in the same canopy is a common chosson and kallah gift.
