Description
Dense silver embroidery worked over brocade. Design 36 is one of the heaviest pieces Malchut makes for the Shabbos table — the silver thread covers a large share of the face, and on brocade it sits against a woven ground that already has pattern in it, so the two work in layers rather than one on top of a blank field. Sterling crystals are set into the stitching.
Four sizes are cut on this design rather than the usual three: small, large, X-large and XX-large. That XX-large is the reason many people come to design 36 — it is made for a table that seats a real crowd, where a standard cover simply does not reach. If you host Yom Tov for extended family, or the challah board runs the length of the table, that is the size to look at.
The same 36 design is also produced on leather and on satin. All three carry the identical silver embroidery, so the choice is purely about the ground fabric and how it behaves under candlelight.
