Brocade Challah Cover with Shabbos Table Design #145

The motif on 145 is a Shabbos table itself, embroidered onto brocade: the setting laid out in thread, with sterling crystals worked in to pick out the details. It is a literal design rather than an abstract one, which puts it in a different category from the geometric and canopy numbers — people either want the scene or they want the pattern, and there is not much middle ground.

Three sizes are cut. Small, 14.5 by 17.5. Medium, 15.5 by 19.5. Large, 19.5 by 23.5. Because the design is pictorial, the larger cuts show it to better effect; the small is the right call only if your table genuinely cannot take more. Measure the challos and add a few inches on every side before you decide.

A scene like this reads well to children, and that is not a small consideration for a cover that comes out fifty-two times a year in front of the same family. It is also an easy piece to give to someone setting up a first home, where the table is still being built up one thing at a time.
