Choosing a kippah depends on minhag, use, and style. Velvet is the classic black yeshivish kippah, worn year-round for daily wear. Suede is softer, often in light colors, popular in Modern Orthodox communities. Knit/crocheted kippot come in many colors and are popular in Israeli and Modern Orthodox circles. Silk or satin are for simchas β€” weddings, bar mitzvahs, upsherin.

Sizing: baby/toddler 10-14 cm (about 4-5.5 inches), children 14-16 cm, teen 17-18 cm, adult 19-22 cm. A well-fitted kippah should sit snug but not tight. Most men wear 19-22 cm.

Quantity: for a wedding, calculate 1 kippah per 2 male guests (some will have their own). Custom wedding kippot (with the couple's names or wedding date) are popular β€” we offer bulk custom embroidery with 3-4 week lead times.

Black velvet is the classic Ashkenaz yeshiva style. Chasidim wear larger, thicker black velvet. Chabad wears a specific fedora-style with a six-sided shape. Sephardim often wear colored knit or light suede. Modern Orthodox wear knit in many colors.

Our kippah clips are popular β€” tiny silver or plastic clips that attach to the kippah and your hair, keeping it from sliding or blowing off. Every bar mitzvah kit should include a few.

What size kippah do I need?

Measure from the crown of your head to just past your ear, then double. A 9-inch measurement fits a 22 cm kippah. Most adult men wear 19–22 cm.

Can I get custom kippot for a wedding?

Yes β€” custom wedding kippot with the couple's names, wedding date, or a verse. Minimum 25 kippot. Lead time 3-4 weeks. Call 732-444-3111 for a custom quote.

What's the most popular kippah for a bar mitzvah?

A beautiful black velvet kippah with fine trim is the classic choice. For a more modern simcha, custom knit or suede kippot with the bar mitzvah's name and date.

Are there different shapes of velvet kippot?

Yes β€” flat, pointed (Chabad), and rounded. Most yeshiva-style are rounded. Chabad kippot are six-sided. Chasidic kippot are larger and thicker. Filter by shape or ask.

Do you sell kippah clips?

Yes β€” silver, gold-tone, and plastic kippah clips in single or bulk packs. Essential for windy days and active boys.

How do I care for velvet or suede kippot?

Brush gently with a soft brush to remove dust. Avoid water β€” spot clean only if needed. Store in a dry drawer. Silk/satin can be gently hand-washed.
