The Case of the Disappearing Chanukah Ca

A beautiful Shabbos table isn't about spending the most — it's about choosing pieces you'll love, week after week. Our buyers have been curating Shabbos Judaica for over two decades, and the pieces we carry are the ones that hold up to real family use.

Start with candlesticks. Silver is the traditional choice, and we carry full sterling sets, weighted silver-plate, and beautiful pewter options. Add kiddush becher for each adult at the table, a challah board and knife, a salt cellar, and a few trays. That's the core set — and most of it can be given as a wedding gift.

Havdalah is its own small ceremony. A spice tower (besamim), a braided havdalah candle, and a havdalah becher round out the set. Many families keep their havdalah pieces on a small tray on the bookshelf, ready for motzei Shabbos.

Free shipping on orders over $75, same-day pickup at our Lakewood stores, and every piece ships protected so it arrives ready to use.

Do I need sterling silver or is silver-plate okay?

Both are halachically fine for Shabbos. Sterling is heavier, polishes to a brighter shine, and is the traditional gift for weddings. Silver-plate is less expensive and looks the same from across the table — just don't put it in the dishwasher. Your budget and your family's traditions should drive the choice.

How many kiddush cups should a family own?

At minimum, one for the host who makes kiddush. Many families give each adult male their own becher — often received as a bar mitzvah or wedding gift — which is also a beautiful custom. We stock becher sets of 6 and 8 for hosting.

What's the difference between a kiddush becher and a regular cup?

A kiddush becher must hold a revi'is (about 3.3 oz / 98ml) of wine. Our beakers are all sized to hold at least that much. The shape, weight, and decoration are style choices — gedolim have used everything from simple silver cups to ornate crystal.

Can I gift a Shabbos set for a wedding or housewarming?

Absolutely — that's how most of these pieces enter a home. Popular wedding gift combos: candlesticks + a kiddush becher set, or a full Shabbos tray with challah board, knife, and salt cellar. We offer gift wrapping at checkout.

How do I care for silver?

Keep silver dry and stored in a cloth pouch or silver-safe drawer. For polish, use a silver polish cloth (not a dip — dips can damage finish). Avoid dishwasher use on all silver. Sterling can be washed by hand in warm soapy water and dried immediately.

Do you carry Sephardic or specifically Chasidic styles?

Yes — we carry kiddush becher in Sephardic design (typically smaller and more ornate), Chasidic-style (often wider, with detailed engraving), and classic Lithuanian styles. Use filters to narrow by style, or call the store.
