Description
The 539 quilting worked in velvet rather than satin, with Shabbos embroidered at the center and Swarovski crystal elements set at the corners and through the middle. Velvet takes quilting differently: instead of channels of sheen you get soft ridges and shadow, so the grid is felt more than seen, and the crystals become the brightest thing on the cover by a wide margin.
Sizes are large at 19.5x23.5, small at 14.5x17.5 and medium at 15.5x19.5. Velvet has more body than satin, which means even the small holds its shape over a pair of challos instead of collapsing, and the large falls with real weight over the ends of a long board.
Bris covers and matzah covers are made in the same 539 design. The white satin version of this cover exists as well and is the brighter of the two; velvet is what to take for a table set with heavier pieces, or for a household that finds satin too reflective under candles.
