Description
A clock is set into this dreidel-shaped hadlakas neiros stand. Design #205 takes the same perspex stand, printed with the brachos for Chanukah lighting, and adds a timepiece to the face so the piece does two jobs from the same spot beside the menorah.
The clock is not decoration. The licht have to burn a half hour after they are lit, and every year somebody in the house is working out when that started and when it ends, usually from memory and usually wrong. Having the time in front of you at the moment of lighting settles the question, and it settles it again for whoever walks in twenty minutes later and asks.
Perspex is a fine acrylic that takes practical use and cleans efficiently, which matters on a stand that spends eight nights within reach of oil cups and a shamash. This is the version to take if the menorah stands somewhere the family passes rather than in a room they light and leave — a hallway, a front window, a dining room where the time actually gets checked.
