Description
Design #327 is the more sculptural of the lucite havdalah sets. The shapes are the decoration; there is no metalwork and no applied ornament, just clear acrylic cut and assembled so that light does the rest. On a table already carrying leichter and a becher, it holds its own without adding another competing finish to the room.
Havdalah comes around fifty-odd times a year, which makes it one of the pieces of Judaica in a house that gets the most use. That is the argument for lucite. It does not tarnish, it does not need a cloth and a can of polish before Yom Tov, and dried wax comes away from it cleanly. Wine on the tray is a wipe rather than a project.
It suits a home furnished contemporary, where a heavy ornate silver set would sit oddly. It is also the one people buy as a second set — one at home and one for a bungalow or an in-law's house — because it is straightforward enough to leave somewhere and not think about.
