Description
A beige cover with a brown flower design, measuring 7 by 6.25 inches. That is a wider page than the upright booklets in this range, and the reason for the extra width is on the edge of the block rather than the face of the cover: this zemiros is tabbed.
The tabs are the whole argument for it. At a table of twenty, when kiddush begins and half the room is still looking for the page, a tab means the booklet opens where it should on the first try. The same holds at bentching and again at havdalah, when everything has to be found quickly and nobody wants to be the one flipping. Nusach Ashkenaz is the version offered.
Tabs pay off at a simcha more than at a family table, since a hall booklet is picked up by people who did not choose it and do not know their way around it. Anything that removes a step is worth having. The beige and brown flower cover is warm rather than formal, which suits a Shabbos sheva brachos or a kiddush held at home.
