A replacement oil bottle for the hurricane-style candle holders that sit at the front of most shuls — the glass-chimney lamps used for a ner neshama, a yahrtzeit light, or a lamp that is simply meant to stay lit. When the old bottle burns out, this is the cartridge that goes back in.
Fifty hours works out to a little over two full days of continuous burn, which covers a standard yahrtzeit with room to spare and keeps a shul from having to send someone out mid-week. Gabbaim generally keep a few on hand rather than one at a time.
