Description
Pleating is what separates 691 from the rest of the linen-look covers. Instead of a flat ground, the fabric is pleated, so the surface carries its own shadow and depth before any thread is put into it. The embroidery and sterling crystals then sit across those folds, and the whole face shifts as you move around the table — the pleats catch light on one side and hold shadow on the other.
Three sizes are made: 19.5 by 23.5, 15.5 by 19.5 and 14.5 by 17.5. Pleated fabric takes up more material than flat fabric for the same finished dimension, which is part of why this one sits at the top of the linen-look range. The large cut shows the pleating to best effect, since the folds have length to run.
A challah board is cut in the matching 691 design, and Malchut produces a matzah cover in it as well. Pleated fabric next to a plain wooden board is a good contrast, and it is a common pairing for a chosson and kallah gift.
