The linen base is gathered into soft folds before the glass goes over it, so the surface underneath is not flat — it carries shadow and movement across the width of the board, and the clear top holds all of that in place permanently without letting it flatten or crease unevenly.

The board runs 16 by 11 inches, which is a real pair-of-challos surface with room for the knife. The pleating is entirely below the glass, so the serving plane stays smooth: nothing catches, nothing collects crumbs in a fold, and a damp cloth clears the whole board after the seudah.
