Description
From Ram to Shofar is a nonfiction book for young readers by Meish Goldish in the How It's Made series. It begins in shul, where a shofar's loud blasts are heard before and during Rosh Hashanah, and then asks how a shofar is actually made. The answer starts with a ram, whose two curved horns are the source of most shofars.
Real photographs follow each step at a shofar factory: checking the horns for cracks, cleaning out the inside, heating and shaping, drilling the mouthpiece, polishing and finally testing the sound. Did You Know? boxes add facts, such as the long kudu horn shofars used by Yemenite Jews, and a glossary explains new words. A great Elul and Rosh Hashanah read for curious kids.
