Description
Maharal's thought stands behind a great deal of later mussar, chassidus and Torah hashkafah, but his own writing is difficult enough that most readers meet it secondhand. Rabbi Tuvia Basser works directly from Derech Chaim, Maharal's commentary to Avos, extracting and clarifying its more complex ideas.
The result functions three ways at once: as a commentary on Pirkei Avos, as an entry point into Maharal, and as a sustained treatment of what the Torah demands ethically. The volume is built on selections from Derech Chaim rather than on the whole of it.
Hardcover, 448 pages, 6 x 9 inches, in English. ArtScroll Mesorah Publications, ISBN 9780899061092, released May 1997.
