Description
Reb Chatzkel -- the name still inspires all who remember his depth, his intensity, his wisdom, his selflessness, his example, his piety, his insistence on excellence, his utter devotion to Hashem, Torah, Mussar, and talmidim.
Reb Chatzkel was Mashgiach in the Mirrer Yeshivah and elsewhere before World War II, but it was during the Shanghai years that his stature assumed truly mythic proportions. After the War, the Yeshivah world of old was gone. It had to be reestablished in America and Israel. First in America and then in Israel -- in Mir and Ponevezh -- Reb Chatzkel was one of the great Torah leaders who never surrendered. Today's magnificent Torah world is their legacy.
In this definitive biography, Rabbi Yitzchak Kasnett, brings us face to face with Reb Chatzkel. Years of research, scores of interviews, endless writing and review went into this work. And it shows. Reb Chatzkel¦s family and talmidim shared their memories, personal correspondence, and never-before-published photographs.
This masterpiece brings to life a great man and historic era.
