In the mid-tenth century, four great rabbanim were captured by pirates and ransomed along the Mediterranean coast. This is not their story.

Enter the world of Yosef and Rachel, orphaned siblings on the streets of Alexandria. When Yosef intervenes in a delicate negotiation between the Jewish community and a vicious pirate, everything seems to go horribly wrong. Next thing he knows, he and Rachel are themselves captured by the pirates.
