Description
The Sages of Eretz Yisrael flourished in the Galil for five generations of the Talmudic era, debating and applying the laws of the Mishnah. Their learning was gathered in the Talmud Yerushalmi. Around 350 C.E., Roman persecution silenced the yeshivos of the Holy Land, before the text could be redacted and organized as the Bavli was in Babylonia.
That is why the Yerushalmi is so difficult, and why for centuries it was studied mostly by select scholars. The scholars who produced the Schottenstein Edition of Talmud Bavli are now opening it to English readers, with the endorsement of Torah leaders in Eretz Yisrael and America.
