Description
The Fortieth Stone is a humorous chapter book by Andrea Ramon Eller, set long ago in a small Russian shtetl. Yossi and Feivish are twins and close friends who match in every way, down to their beards and their clothes. They learn Torah side by side in the village's small beis midrash and earn a living from the eggs and milk of their hens and goats.
Then the bitter Russian winter freezes their animals, and the brothers have to find a new way to feed their families. Which twin will learn and which will work? And who gets to decide? It may take a small miracle to settle it, as the brothers unravel the meaning of the fortieth stone. A glossary explains Yiddish and Hebrew words.
