Description
Design 760 sends gold latticework across the black velvet, dense enough to catch light from across the beis medrash. The lattice runs on the diagonal with the crossings picked out in heavier thread, so the whole face carries a repeating geometry rather than a single motif.
The bag is made at 10.5 by 10 inches for bar mitzvah, 14 by 14 as a large talis bag and 16 by 16 extra large. Repeating patterns scale better than centred ones, which means the 16-inch looks as considered as the smallest size — useful if you are buying the extra large for a full wool tallis. For a bochur with one pair of tefillin, the 10.5 by 10 is correct.
Lattice designs are among the longest-lived in this range because they are geometric rather than pictorial, and geometry does not go out of fashion.
