Description
Design 848 layers gold embroidery on black velvet, building the pattern up rather than spreading it thin. The stitching has depth to it, and against the nap of the velvet the raised gold catches light from one angle and settles down from another, which is what gives these bags their look on a shtender.
The three sizes are the bar mitzvah bag, the standard 14 by 14 talis bag and the 16 by 16. A bochur takes the 10.5 by 10; a man buying for himself almost always takes the 14 by 14; and the 16 by 16 is the order when the tallis is large or when tefillin, tallis and a siddur all travel together.
This is a design that reads formal, so it suits Yom Tov and the Yomim Noraim as much as an ordinary weekday. Many buyers keep one good bag for everything rather than splitting the year between two.
