Description
Gold embroidery worked over black velvet, catalogued as Malchut design 868. The pattern is generous without being crowded, and it holds the eye at the centre of the panel where a talis bag is usually seen when it is sitting on a bench beside its owner.
It is made in bar mitzvah 10.5 by 10, large 14 by 14 and 16 by 16 talis sizes. A boy with a smaller tallis and his first tefillin is fine with the bar mitzvah size for several years. An adult should be looking at the 14 by 14, and only step up to the 16 by 16 if his tallis is genuinely large or he carries a siddur along with everything else.
Velvet in this weight takes handling well, but it does like to be kept out of the sun. A bag stored face down on a shelf keeps its colour longer than one left on a windowsill.
