Black Velvet Tallis & Tefillin Bag with Gold Embroidery, Design #875

Design 875 is gold embroidery on black velvet, worked with the kind of even coverage that makes a bag look finished rather than decorated. The gold has warmth to it and the velvet is deep enough that the contrast holds up from across a room.

Malchut makes it in the bar mitzvah size, the 14 by 14 talis size and an extra large 16 by 16. The bar mitzvah bag is for a boy of thirteen and his first tefillin; the 14 by 14 is what he will want once he owns a full wool tallis; and the 16 by 16 is the size for a large tallis or a fuller load on Shabbos.

The same 875 design is made as a challah cover and a challah board. A bag for him and the Shabbos table pieces for the house, all in one number, is a gift that looks planned rather than assembled, and it is a common choice for a chosson.
