Description
This Aleph Beis Kippah is a four-panel black velvet yarmulke with the Hebrew alphabet stitched in silver-white thread, sold in 9 sizes at $9.99. The letters, from Aleph around to Tav, form a continuous band just above the rim, bright against the deep black velvet. Above the letters, the velvet is left unadorned. Besides domed sizes 1 to 5, it comes as a flat kippah in 16 or 18 cm, and each flat size is also offered with clips for a secure hold. It is a Rachel Ostroy x iKippah design. Sold by Judaica Square, shipping from Lakewood, NJ.

Best for
- A young child who keeps losing his kippah: flat sizes come with clips
- Upsherin, first day of cheder or a Chumash party
- Anyone who wants high-contrast lettering on black velvet
- Families who want the same design in dome and flat styles
Not the right choice if
- You want teal letters; these are silver-white
- A plain black velvet requirement
- A size 6 or larger dome
- Machine washing; velvet must be brushed, not washed
Why customers choose it
This is the most practical of the Aleph Beis kippot for small children, because the flat sizes can be ordered with clips already attached. The silver-white letters stand out sharply on black velvet, making the alphabet easy to read and point to. The band of letters sits low, so the crown still looks like a classic velvet kippah.

Frequently asked questions
Are the letters teal or silver?
Silver-white. The letters are stitched in a bright silver-white thread that stands out sharply on the black velvet; there is no teal in the embroidery.
What does "with clips" mean on the flat sizes?
The 16 cm and 18 cm flat kippot can be ordered with clips attached, which helps keep the kippah in place on a child's head.
Which sizes are domed and which are flat?
Sizes 1 to 5 are domed. The flat versions are 16 cm and 18 cm, each with or without clips.
Silver letters or light blue letters?
Silver is brighter and higher contrast. The light blue version is softer and comes in domed sizes only.
Is this a good gift for starting cheder?
Yes, the full alphabet design is popular for a child beginning to learn Hebrew letters.
