Description
Chazon Ish - Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, the "Chazon Ish," was a leader of Lithuanian Jewry in Eretz Yisrael from 1933-1953. His Halachic rulings are still adhered to today. Although he was a Litvak, he willingly contributed to the Torah scroll commissioned by the Rebbe Raayatz, known as Mashiach's Sefer Torah.
-
Chofetz Chaim - Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan, the "Chofetz Chaim," wrote many holy works, including Mishna Brura and Shmiras Haloshon. His warm feeling toward Chasidim was documented by his son in an authoritative biography. His 1917 meeting with the Rebbe Rashab and their discussion about the holiness of the beard demonstrated their common goals.
-
Rabbi Moshe Feinstein - The Halachic expert of the last generation, Reb Moshe was truly a genius with great humility. This refined character brought him and the Rebbe to have great respect for and closeness with each other, from the 1940s, when the Rebbe Raayatz wanted to hire him as Rosh Yeshiva in 770.
-
Ponovitz - Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahnenmen was the founder of the Ponovitz yeshiva in Bnei Brak in 1943. He had a strong relationship with Lubavitch from his days as Rav in Ponovitz in the 1920s- 1930s. He set the true tone for today's Ponovitz which is unity. The differences between Lubavitch and Ponovitz of the 1980s, are history. Rabbi Kahnenmen's direction is still respected in today's Ponovitz.
-
Brisk - Reb Chaim Soloveitchik, the innovator of the Brisker style of Talmud study and his son Reb Velvel Soloveitchik, known as the Brisker Rav, established this special chain of Litvak Jewry in Eretz Yisrael. Both had good relationships with the last three Rebbes of Lubavitch. The details are provided in this fascinating chapter.
