Description
The design on 1412 stays the same and the thread colour changes everything. Blue embroidery gives a cooler, more contemporary bag with the pattern reading clearly against the ground. Gold is the traditional choice, warmer, richer, and the one usually picked when the bag is meant for Shabbos and Yom Tov rather than for the week. There is no fur or velvet involved; the stitching is the entire decoration, which is why the quality of the thread work matters so much on this number.
It is offered as a bar mitzvah bag at 10.5" x 10", a large talis bag at 14" x 14", and an extra large at 16" x 16". A bochur takes the smallest. A man with a standard woolen tallis takes the 14" x 14". The 16" x 16" is for a heavy tallis or for anyone who carries a siddur in the same bag.
Between the two thread colours, gold is the safer gift and blue is the more personal one. If you know he already owns a gold-worked bag, the blue is the interesting choice.
