Description
The embroidered face on 1428 was drawn to scale up cleanly, and that is the useful thing about this number. The same pattern reads properly on the small bar mitzvah bag and on the 16" x 16", without looking cramped on one or thin on the other. That is harder to achieve than it sounds, and it is why families with more than one boy keep coming back to designs like this one.
The three cuts are the bar mitzvah bag at 10.5" x 10", the large talis bag at 14" x 14", and the extra large at 16" x 16". A bochur with new tefillin takes the smallest. A man with a standard woolen tallis takes the middle size. The extra large is for a heavy tallis or a bag that also carries a siddur.
Brothers carrying the same design in two sizes is a common sight in Lakewood, and it costs nothing extra to arrange it. If a second bar mitzvah is a few years off, note the design number now.
