Description
Ostrich-grain black leather gives this bag its texture, and light grey leather gives it its structure. There is no fur on design #1512 and no embroidery competing for the eye. The whole effect comes from raised grain catching light against a flat, pale panel, which puts it at the restrained end of the Malchut range.
Three sizes are cut from the same pattern. The 10.5 by 10 bar mitzvah bag holds a bochur's first tallis and his tefillin without slack. The 14 by 14 large talis bag is what most married men end up carrying. The 16 by 16 extra large is there for an oversized or heavy tallis that needs the room. Fold the tallis the way he actually folds it, measure that, and the choice makes itself.
Because the finish is leather on leather rather than fabric, it takes the wear of a bag carried to shul three times a day differently than velvet does, and the grey panels hide handling better than a solid black face would.
