Description
The Navy Leather Aleph Bais Kippah is a four-panel leather yarmulke with the Hebrew alphabet embroidered around its lower band, sold in 9 sizes at $11.99 and offered in navy, gray or black. The letters run in alphabetical order, starting from aleph, in a continuous ring just above the rim, stitched in thread that matches the leather, so they show as raised texture rather than contrast. The leather has a soft pebble grain, and the edge is a matching leather binding. It is part of the Rachel Ostroy x iKippah collection. Sold by Judaica Square, shipping from Lakewood, NJ.

How this compares
| Kippah | Material | Season / weight | Formality | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aleph Bais – Navy Leather (this one) | Leather with embroidery | All year | Smart, understated | Hebrew letters as quiet texture |
| Gray Wool Kippah – Aleph Beis Yarmulke | Wool | Autumn and winter | Smart | The alphabet motif on a warm wool base |
| Navy Corduroy Kippah – Aleph Bais Yarmulke | Corduroy | Cooler months | Casual | A softer, ribbed navy take on the aleph-bais |
Best for
- A boy starting cheder or learning to read Hebrew
- A gift for a rebbe, morah or a grandfather who loves the letters
- Men who want a design detail that only shows up close
- Brothers in matching colours, since navy runs from size 1 to 6
Not the right choice if
- You want the letters to stand out in a contrasting colour; these are tonal
- A gray or black in size 6 or a 20 cm flat; those come in navy only
- A plain, unadorned leather kippah
- A soft fabric feel; the embroidered leather is firm
Why customers choose it
Tone-on-tone embroidery lets the aleph-bais be meaningful without being loud: from a distance it reads as a plain leather kippah, and close up the Hebrew letters circle the whole band. That makes it wearable for an adult in shul as easily as for a child just learning his letters. Three colours cover most wardrobes, with navy offering the widest size range.

Frequently asked questions
How are the Hebrew letters arranged?
They start with aleph and run in alphabetical order in one continuous ring around the lower band, just above the rim.
Who designed the aleph-bais kippah?
It is part of the Rachel Ostroy x iKippah collection of designer kippot.
Which colours come in which sizes?
Navy comes in sizes 1 to 6 plus 16, 18 and 20 cm flats. Gray and black come in sizes 1 to 5 plus 16 and 18 cm flats.
Do the letters stand out from the leather?
They are stitched in a matching colour, so they appear as raised texture rather than bright contrast. They show most clearly in good light.
Is this a good gift for a child learning Hebrew?
Yes. The letters are in alphabetical order, so a child can trace them around the kippah, and the small sizes start at 1.
How is it different from the gray wool aleph beis kippah?
The wool version is a soft suiting fabric suited to cooler weather. This one is leather, firmer, and wipes clean.
