Description
One hundred and forty-four inches by a hundred and sixty. This is the jumbo wool tallis spread over the children for kol hanearim, and the dimensions are the whole reason it exists: an ordinary tallis cannot cover a group of boys, and four men holding the corners of a normal one still leaves half of them standing outside it.
It is wool, made in a single size, with no options to choose between. On Simchas Torah it is held open above the boys during the aliyah while they say the brachos together with the man called up, and then it goes away again for the year. A shul buys one of these once and it serves for decades of Simchas Torah.
Plan on several men to hold it, which surprises shuls the first year they own one. At that width it takes four people to keep the cloth flat and high enough to clear the children's heads, and it is easier to arrange that in advance than in the middle of the aliyah.
