The klaf is the mitzvah; the case protects it. We sell both — certified mehudar klafim written by senior sofrim and a wide selection of cases in sterling, silverplate, pewter, brass, ceramic, acrylic, and olivewood. Every klaf we carry is checked by a skilled sofer before sale, with a certificate of checking. Not sure how many mezuzos your home needs, or which doorways are chayav? Our Lakewood staff can walk you through it room by room.

How many mezuzos does a typical home need?

Every doorway used for residential purposes requires a mezuzah — that typically means the front door, back door, bedrooms, kitchen entry, living room entry, dining room, and basement doorways. Bathrooms, closets smaller than 4x4 amos, and doorways without a lintel are usually exempt. For a 4-bedroom home, plan on 8–14 mezuzos. Call us to walk through your floor plan.

How do I know the klaf is kosher?

Every klaf we sell has been checked by a sofer who confirms the spelling, letter formation, ink, and parchment integrity. We include a bedikah certificate with each purchase. We recommend rechecking mezuzos twice every seven years — we offer bedikah service in-house.

What's the difference between a "beis yosef" and "ari" klaf?

These refer to the kavanos (intent) the sofer had while writing and, in some customs, small variations in letter formation. Chassidishe families typically use Ari (or Arizal) klafim; Sefardim often use Beis Yosef. Ashkenazi non-Chassidic families often accept either. If unsure, match your rav's minhag — we label every klaf clearly.

Which side of the doorway does the mezuzah go on?

On the right side as you enter the room. The top of the mezuzah tilts toward the inside of the room. Affix within the top third of the doorframe — roughly a tefach below the lintel. Kosher installation takes about 30 seconds per doorway; we include nails and instructions with every mezuzah.
