Description
Design 836 puts warm gold embroidery on black velvet, and warm is the right word for it. The thread has more amber in it than the brighter golds elsewhere in the range, so the bag reads softer under the fluorescent lighting most shuls actually have, rather than glaring.
Malchut makes it in the 10.5 by 10 bar mitzvah size, the 14 by 14 large size and the 16 by 16 extra large. A boy who has just received tefillin and carries a smaller tallis is set with the first. A man with a standard wool tallis wants the 14 by 14, which is the size ordered most often. The 16 by 16 is for a large or heavy tallis, or for someone who keeps a siddur and his tefillin in one bag.
A warm gold like this pairs comfortably with gold-toned clips and an older atarah, which is worth considering if the tallis has already been in the family for a while.
